Proof that Parents Need Support

Just this month, an article came out about parent experiences in transitions for their child with Cerebral Palsy. I read through the article full of parent experiences when transitioning their child to developmental/rehab services. This article is specific to parents with children with Cerebral Palsy, however this can relate to all parents of special needs children…

They describe how they experienced “emotional burden and emotional trauma” after receiving the diagnosis. Especially when your child is young, trying to figure out a way to map out what you need to do for your child, what services will they need, how can I provide support for them… all while dealing with your own emotions of stress and sometimes denial.

I can’t say I have ever walked in your shoes, but I can say that I know you all are doing your best. I see it every single day when speaking with parents of special needs children. It doesn’t matter what age they are either… you all still need support. I get questions daily and I see the emotions you all go through. I think you all are superheroes.

This is exactly why I created our Parent Support Group. To be able to provide resources and information/connections with those that can provide answers. It is so you all can connect with one another and know you aren’t alone in all that you are going through. Sure, schedules are always hectic and you’re usually off running to a million different places… but being able to connect with someone who knows exactly what its like and share stories and information is something that can’t be matched.

We know you didn’t need an article to come out to prove that you need support… but it can serve as a little reminder to take advantage of the support that’s around you, surround yourselves with supportive families, and connect with others who know exactly what its like.
